WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

Great with young people...
Ant has a real skill with young people. He is gentle and enthusiastic and never pushy. He lets them learn at their own pace and gives them time and space to fall in love with the skill so it is always a pleasure and never a duty. He’s totally reliable and really helpful and generous with his advice on buying an instrument and other bits of kit. He helped his students form bands and arranged gigs in the local pub for them that they will look back on as highlights of their childhood.

Adjusted his teaching style....
His lessons are engaging and 45 minutes goes past like its 10. As a child he kept the lessons light hearted and fun for me. Incorporating games into the learning to keep me motivated and interested. But as I got older and progressed to a better standard Anthony adjusted his teaching style perfectly so that I would keep learning as much as possible.

Inspiring, dedicated and reliable
I want to highly recommend, Anthony Channer as a guitar teacher. He worked with my son for over a year and proved to be an inspiring, dedicated and reliable teacher. He supported my son in preparing and taking his Grade 1 guitar this year, for which he received a distinction. Anthony's calm but detailed approach was key to my son achieving this and we are so very grateful for all his hard work.

Taught Me A Beautiful Skill
Anthony taught me guitar from when I was to 8 until I was 18, so not only was he someone that taught me a beautiful skill in being able to play the guitar and the bass, but he was also a figure in my upbringing. He is great with kids of all ages and can really adapt his teaching style as people grow up, with our lessons becoming progressively more adult as time went on.

A Brilliant teacher
My lessons with Anthony were always interesting as there was always something for me to do, I enjoyed 5 years of drumming lessons with Anthony which he helped me through and made me a much better musician. He has taught me everything I know about drumming through online lessons and I progressed through the grades with his teaching. He was a brilliant teacher for me.

Mixing grade work with fun
Anthony has been a brilliant drum teacher to our 10 year old son over the last two years. He has given him lots of techniques and also kept it fun, mixing grade work with fun rock out tunes. Through his help Leo went through grade 1 to 3 with merit and has started learning grade 5 pieces. He has a nice friendly manner and is laid back but professional. Recommended!

An outstanding teacher
Anthony is an outstanding teacher with an extraordinary capacity to be both sensitive to the needs of children but constantly inspiring and pushing them to achieve the highest possible standards. My son adores his lessons – in part because Anthony is such a warm, caring teacher but also because he finds Anthony’s first-hand experiences of being in a band, writing and recording music, totally engaging. When Anthony recorded an album in Nashville, my son was intrigued and inspired and it was a fabulous learning experience for him.

Kind Funny and patient
Ant is a kind, funny, patient and wonderful teacher. He makes whatever you’re learning exciting, and you can always remember what he’s taught you and lets you play the music you want. The skills I have learnt on the guitar with him are countless, even with a pandemic in the middle and it all being online.

Lessons

I tailor every lesson to the individual. I aim to make learning fun, engaging, and suited to each student’s pace. I’m a strong believer in the value of jamming — it’s how I became comfortable on my instrument, and I encourage students to explore this too.

Some students benefit from being pushed, while others thrive with more time, encouragement, and a more playful, game-like approach to learning. I’m patient, adaptable, and always looking for the most effective way to help each student grow.

A brilliant choice for both beginners and aspiring musicians alike, my lessons  can be great for those just starting out or designed to suit anyone who wants to take their playing to the next level.

About me

Hi, I’m Anthony, a professional musician and music teacher with over 17 years of experience — and more than 11,800 individual lessons taught (and counting).

I grew up in West Somerset, surrounded by inspiring teachers, close friends, and a family of music-loving brothers. From an early age, I knew I wanted to be a musician. I studied Music at GCSE and A-level, and went on to pursue my passion further at BassTech in London, where I studied bass guitar at university level.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of performing with amazing artists including Melanie Blatt (All Saints), Nerina Pallot, and Harry Mundy (Bear’s Den), and have played alongside Steve Forrest (Placebo). I’ve toured extensively with Australian sibling band Belle Roscoe, recorded in Nashville, and appeared on television and at a number of prestigious festivals.

Currently, I perform with my jazz/funk/fusion trio, Juxter, alongside Dave Morecroft and Robin Parker. We’re exploring ways to make live performance more interactive — even integrating live gaming to create a more immersive musical experience, which I find really exciting.

Teaching has always been a central part of my life. I’ve taught students of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to those preparing for music exams or pursuing music professionally. One of my proudest moments was working closely with my student Gretel, helping her rework and record her original songs. Those recordings played a big part in her securing a record deal just after finishing school.

Guitar Groups

I also run two community guitar groups — one in Roadwater and one in Taunton. It’s been a real joy to bring like-minded people together to learn and play as a group. The group setting creates a relaxed and social environment where players can grow in confidence, learn from each other, and enjoy the experience of making music together. Both groups performed at our annual showcase, and it’s a fantastic way to feel part of something bigger while progressing musically

Annual Student Showcase

Each year, I organise a showcase where students can perform in front of a friendly and supportive audience. It’s a brilliant way to build confidence and experience the buzz of performing live. These events also raise money for music therapy charities, and they’ve become a highlight for students and families alike
