Welcome To Ant Channer Music
Based in Taunton and Minehead, I offer guitar, bass, ukulele and drum lessons across the West Somerset area — both in person and online.
With over 18 years of experience as a musician, teacher, and composer, I work with students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced players. I teach electric, acoustic and bass guitar, as well as ukulele and drums, and tailor every lesson to suit the individual.
Whether you’re into rock, pop, funk, jazz or just want to strum your first chords, I aim to create a fun supportive environment where learning feels exciting and enjoyable.
Alongside teaching, I also compose music for TV, radio and other projects, so if you’re looking for bespoke music or support with songwriting, I’d love to help.

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

Lessons
I tailor every lesson to the individual. I aim to make learning fun, engaging, and suited to each student’s pace. I’m a strong believer in the value of jamming — it’s how I became comfortable on my instrument, and I encourage students to explore this too.
Some students benefit from being pushed, while others thrive with more time, encouragement, and a more playful, game-like approach to learning. I’m patient, adaptable, and always looking for the most effective way to help each student grow.
A brilliant choice for both beginners and aspiring musicians alike, my lessons can be great for those just starting out or designed to suit anyone who wants to take their playing to the next level.

About me
Hi, I’m Anthony, a professional musician and music teacher with over 17 years of experience — and more than 11,800 individual lessons taught (and counting).
I grew up in West Somerset, surrounded by inspiring teachers, close friends, and a family of music-loving brothers. From an early age, I knew I wanted to be a musician. I studied Music at GCSE and A-level, and went on to pursue my passion further at BassTech in London, where I studied bass guitar at university level.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of performing with amazing artists including Melanie Blatt (All Saints), Nerina Pallot, and Harry Mundy (Bear’s Den), and have played alongside Steve Forrest (Placebo). I’ve toured extensively with Australian sibling band Belle Roscoe, recorded in Nashville, and appeared on television and at a number of prestigious festivals.
Currently, I perform with my jazz/funk/fusion trio, Juxter, alongside Dave Morecroft and Robin Parker. We’re exploring ways to make live performance more interactive — even integrating live gaming to create a more immersive musical experience, which I find really exciting.
Teaching has always been a central part of my life. I’ve taught students of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to those preparing for music exams or pursuing music professionally. One of my proudest moments was working closely with my student Gretel, helping her rework and record her original songs. Those recordings played a big part in her securing a record deal just after finishing school.

Guitar Groups
I also run two community guitar groups — one in Roadwater and one in Taunton. It’s been a real joy to bring like-minded people together to learn and play as a group. The group setting creates a relaxed and social environment where players can grow in confidence, learn from each other, and enjoy the experience of making music together. Both groups performed at our annual showcase, and it’s a fantastic way to feel part of something bigger while progressing musically
Annual Student Showcase
Each year, I organise a showcase where students can perform in front of a friendly and supportive audience. It’s a brilliant way to build confidence and experience the buzz of performing live. These events also raise money for music therapy charities, and they’ve become a highlight for students and families alike
